About the event

This is an informative 4 hour workshop, ideal for anyone who may be supporting others therapeutically. As a group we will explore both LGBQIA+ and Transgender topics, challenge social stigma, and the individual challenges and difficulties for anyone questioning their identity, gender, or/and sexuality. We will be encouraging an open dialog where we will be disusing case studies and experiences in relation to the content. 

Your online session covers the following topics and will include open discussion and time for questions. 

11 am - Personal introductions

Exploring Diverse Sexuality (LGBTQIA)

What are the differences between sexuality and gender?

Gender task sheet exercise / open discussion

12.45 pm - Part 2

Transgender awareness in general

Thoughts and feelings, fears of this topic

Supporting someone to explore their identity and/or gender.

Challenging stigma scenarios (requested from group to include)

Inclusive interaction / Language

2.30 pm - Part 3

Pathway to transitioning for someone who is exploring their gender further

Referring & supporting family/parents

Your trainer is Sarah, or otherwise known as SJ, they have trained with Gender Intelligence to share how transgender people can be supported, and has lived experience of being part of the LGBTQIA+ community.  Sarah has 26 years of experience, supporting people and their mental wellbeing.  Sarah specialises in using creative methods to reach out to someone who may be feeling shut down or depressed.   With the support of her qualifications in Mindfulness, Mentoring, Counselling, Sound Therapy, Gender, LGBTQIA+, diversity and Therapeutic Art she is supporting schools, individuals, and local organisations to help support people in the Gloucestershire community.  

Sarah has an enhanced DBS and is a member of the CMA, Complementary Medical Association and the BACP, British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and is a Mental Health Champion for the charity MIND.
